Match Calendar
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) signed a letter of intent with Panama for a friendly during the September-October FIFA window. The match is scheduled for the weekend of September 26-27, although the venue has not yet been finalized.
Next, Brazil will be hosted in Kolkata on October 3, at the VYBK Stadium (Salt Lake Stadium). The Brazilian delegation will include more than 90 people, including a five-member delegation that has already visited the city to assess facilities.
In November, the team will travel to New Zealand twice: November 12 in Auckland and November 15 in Christchurch. Both matches will take place in stadiums that hosted 2026 World Cup fixtures.
A possible friendly on October 6, which had been discussed with Cape Verde, has not yet been officially confirmed.
Preparations for Brazil
The match against Brazil, five-time world champions, is the biggest bet of the season. Coach Khalid Jamil and his squad have already started preparations, with training sessions at the VYBK Stadium and video analysis of the opponents.
The Brazilian delegation visited Kolkata to assess the stadium, training facilities, accommodation and security. Brazil plans to arrive with a squad of more than 90 people, including players, coaching staff and logistical support.
Friendly with Panama
Panama, ranked 44th in the FIFA rankings, participated in the 2026 World Cup but did not progress beyond the group stage. Coach Thomas Christiansen, born in Denmark, continues to develop the side.
The friendly with India offers Panama a chance to test the team against a world-class opponent and then participate in the Kirin Cup in Japan, alongside Japan, Ecuador and New Zealand.
Matches against New Zealand
New Zealand, also a 2026 World Cup participant, will provide India with two away opportunities. The matches on November 12 and 15 will allow the team to experience different playing styles and gain international experience.
Possible match on October 6
An AIFF senior official stated that “there is a high possibility of an international friendly against another World Cup opponent on October 6.”
While earlier reports suggested a match with Cape Verde, confirmation has not yet arrived. If confirmed, the game would be an additional chance for India to test its performance against a high-level competitor.
Impact on Ranking
A win or draw against any World Cup team can significantly boost India’s ranking and raise the team’s morale. The calendar, featuring Panama, Brazil and New Zealand, offers a rare opportunity to face high-level opposition in a short period.
