Bruninho, 40, returns to the podium in 2016
Bruninho, a setter from Campinas and former national team player, turned 40 and recalls the 2016 Olympic gold. He describes the podium as a moment he “could live in that time”. The title was the obsession of the Olympic cycle, after silver medals in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
The current generation needs pressure
"The national team cannot take the knife out of its teeth," Bruninho says. He notes that the exits in the VNL and World Cup were a “fuel” for the new generation. Though no longer in the national team, he follows the results and believes that the pressure and sacrifice of the past are essential for future success.
Life after the national team and personal projects
Bruninho has a two-year contract with Campinas. If his health allows, he may continue playing, but he is already planning retirement. He wants to be a father, has a relationship with Ana (Laura Magalhães, 35-year-old financial specialist), and intends to have more than one child. Additionally, Bruninho serves as a board member at Instituto Compartilhar, invests in startups, and plans to resume his Business Administration studies at PUC Campinas.
What the future holds
In September, the South American Championship in Rio will grant a spot for Los Angeles 2028. Bruninho trusts Brazil, but acknowledges the competition is tough, especially against Argentina and Colombia. He foresees that in the next ten years his priority will be family, but he will remain happy with what sport offers him.
